Fall Basketball Event to Showcase Talent from the State Of Oregon

The inaugural 2010 “Oregon ELITE 40” Fall Basketball Showcase is going to take place in Portland, OR. This event features the top 160 players from all over the state of Oregon and will take place October 23rd, 2010 at Lakeridge High School. The “Oregon ELITE 40” will run from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Saturday.

“The 2010 ‘Oregon ELITE 40′ is designed to help promote and enhance Oregon basketball players looking for the opportunity to play at the next level,” said Johnny Hernandez; the Director of the event. “This type of event allows kids the opportunity to prove who the best at their position regardless of class. It allows College Coaches, Media and Scouts the opportunity to see basketball match-ups at each position and see where a basketball player’s level of talent truly is at this point.”

“Players will be placed on teams and play two (2) games over the course of the event,” said Hernandez. “The players will be put in a team of 10 players mixed with other players from the Class of 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015.We will also have a ‘Best of Oregon’ game at the end of the day featuring the top 20 players from the event regardless of class. The game will be streamlined live via the internet.”

This will help with the energy and competition at the event, giving the players from the Class of 2011 to 2015 a chance to match up against other players at their position.

“All College Coaches, Media and Scouts will receive a ‘Showcase Guide’ with academic, statistical and contact information on all participants of the event,” said Hernandez. “Every player also receives an ‘Oregon ELITE 40′ Basketball Showcase Uniform T-Shirt.”

“My goal for the event is to help showcase basketball players from the State of Oregon through Media, Scouts and the Internet. This will help give the players a chance to earn scholarships and financial aid to a Perspective University or College,” continued Johnny Hernandez.

Players from the “Oregon ELITE 40” were selected by Scouts, Media, AAU Coaches and High School Coaches from the State of Oregon. In order to help with the costs of running an event as big as this, selected players are asked to pay a fee.

Fall basketball events such as the “Oregon ELITE 40” have become critical for players trying to garner recruiting interest from schools. Positive buzz from this event can help a player gain recruiting interest at every level of the College Basketball World.

One of my favorite college Baseketball wirters Gary Parrish of CBS Sports dropped his top 5 ranking of high school players in the class of 2011. He also hinted at where he thinks each will end up at.

Top 5 in alphabetical order

• Anthony Davis (Kentucky)
• Mike Gilchrist (Kentucky)
• Quincy Miller (uncommitted)
• Austin Rivers (uncommitted)
• Adonis Thomas (uncommitted)

5. So three of your top five are uncommitted. Where will they sign?

I’ve never fancied myself a recruiting analyst, but I talk to a lot of people who do. After conversations with them and staffs involved in every recruitment, my prediction would be that Miller ultimately plays for Louisville, Rivers for Duke and Thomas for Memphis. As always, if I’m correct I’ll mention this again. If not, let’s forget it ever happened.

As far as his top 5 I would take Anthony Davis off his top 5 and add Myck Kabongo. Other then that I agree with his top 5 and also agree that this is the most likely destination for the players.

arguably the most efficient player in his class. He can score in bunches without having to control the ball which is rare. Muhammad does a great job of working without the ball to get himself open for a spot up shots and lanes for layups. In one of the games featured in this mix, Shabazz scores 50 points. Here is 6’5 Shabazz Muhammad playing for DreamVision this past AAU season and competing in the Elite 24 Allstar Game. He is currently ranked #3 in the Class of 2012 and #1 in his position.
