Recap: FullCourt Press All West Camp
With the 1st July period in full swing our next report comes from the Full court Press All West Camp, check out some of the players that stood out from the camp.
2011 Shakir Smith Tucson HS (Tucson, AZ) - Smith came into the week as the wild card of the camp, after watching him put on a show in an event in the spring (45 point game against Compton Magic) I had to make sure Smith was the real deal and that one weekend wasn’t just a fluke. All camp Smith has been turning everybody into a believer of his game knocking down all type of jump shots on consistent bases. He already picked up a couple offers and with his stock still climbing I’m sure somebody will find a spot on the roster for him.
2012 Kenny Martin Kellis HS (Glendale, AZ) - Martin came into this week with very little known about him and he is leaving, as player high major programs will watch in the 2nd period. The 6-foot-10 Martin plays with a motor that doesn’t stop and the defensive side really gets after it. His offensive side of his game still needs some fine-tuning.
2012 Arik Armstead Pleasant Grove HS (Pleasant Grove, CA) – Already ranked the No.1 Defensive End in football and committed to USC, the 6-foot-9 Armstead could be a big time impact on the basketball court as well. Standing at 6-foot-9 and weighing around 270 Armstead is agile on his feet and his get hands. He can also step out and knock down the shot.
2013 Paul Watson Paradise Valley HS (Phoenix, AZ) - Watson continues to improve, the 6-foot-6 wing showed off a consistent jump shot, ball handling skill and his athletic ability that allows him to get to the rack and finish. Watson is one to watch as from here on out his stock will continue to rise.
2013 Dakari Allen Sheldon HS (Sheldon, CA) - Allen is a very intriguing prospect to watch, 6-foot-5 with a solid frame that can handle the ball well. For Allen its not his athletic ability that he needs to work on but more of his mental game, on most plays Allen looks like a top 100 prospect and on others Allen can look lost. If he learns when to go and when to slow down a make the simple play Allen can end up a high major prospect.
2015 Tyler Dorsey Ribet Academy (Los Angeles, CA) - Dorsey is an elite player already. He already has a nice body on his 6-foot-4 with a nice frame. He has a knock down jump shot and his athletic ability is insane for his age. He also handles the ball well for his age and size. Look for Dorsey to turn into a high major wing.
2016 Derryck Thornton (Chatsworth HS) – Thornton is the talk of the camp, not only because he is only going into the eighth grade, but more so of what he can do already. He handles the ball very well and understands as lead guard on how to get his teammates involved. He also showed off a very nice jump shot. Thornton is going to be a very interesting prospect to watch and grow.
New and Notes from the event:
2013 Paul Watson received an offer from Fresno St after the camp was over.
2012 Arik Armstead, word in the gym was that Armstead may be looking to play basketball at the next level and would even consider opening up his recruitment if a school made his recruitment about basketball.
2012 David Andoh and Chris Reyes both picked up offers from Fresno St.
2012 Adam Lacey picked up and offer Long Beach St.
