Pangos Sweet 16 Tournament Recap
As the July period rolls along our next stop is Cabrillo high school in Long Beach, CA for the Pangos Sweet 16. Check out some of the scouting reports down below of some of the talent that was on hand.
2012 Guard Gabe York (Orange Lutheran) (Arizona Commit) - York and his Compton Magic Team only played one game and like most times I watched York he didn’t disappoint. Showing off his shooting ability with knocking down threes to driving to the basket and finishing York flashed a little bit of everything. Sean Miller and Arizona got a good one in Gabe York.
2012 Forward Rosco Allen (Bishop Gorman HS/Las Vegas Lakers) - With just about every school in the Pac 12 watching Allen played well. Instead of settling for outside shots (like he usually does) Allen drove to the basket more and finished well. If he continues to use his size and get the whole Allen can ending up being a solid contributor 4 years at whatever school he ends up going too.
2012 Forward Zena Edosomwan (Oak Christian/Belmont Shore) - Last month I said Robert Upshaw was the most improved player from last year (at least on the west coast) and now Zena Edsowoman is No.2.
He has fine-tuned his body and is in excellent shape. He also uses his body to punish defenders down low on the block. On the offensive side he still needs to finish better but on the defensive side he goes after it big time rebounding, blocking shots and taking upon any challenge that is given to him. He also plays with a high motor, 4-year guy at a major program that could be the difference maker in so many ways.
2012 Kenny Martin (Aces Arizona) - Martin gets after it, on the offensive side the ball he still needs to develop his game, but on the defensive side of things Martin makes plays. Goes hard around the glass trying to block shots and grabbing just about any rebound that is even close to him. Right now Martin has the game that can land him some high major scholarships, but I think a mid major program would be the best for him.
2012 Forward Ben Carter (Bishop Gorman HS/Las Vegas Lakers) - Carter playing in his first July evaluation period was ready to go from the jump. He came playing with high intensity, getting to the rack and scoring at will. He also got after it on the defensive side of the ball as well, blocking shot and rebounding the ball. Look for Carter to become the No.1 recruit for a lot of schools on the west coast.
2013 Point Guard Jaron Hopkins (Compton Magic) - Hopkins showed off his great lead guard play, got his teammates involved and also scored at got the basket when his team needed it. He still needs to pick up his motor; if he does that Hopkins will be considered a major prospect for a lot of teams on the west coast.
2015 Guard Tyler Dorsey (Belmont Shore) - Dorsey had his coming out party last night, showing off a mid- range jump shot that had all the college coaches asking who he was. He also handles the ball great and is solid on the defensive side of the ball. Standing at 6-foot-4 Dorsey is already considered a high major player at the next level.
