Recap: Double Pump Summer Tip Off Day 1

Pump Tourney

Carson, CA – The open July period is upon us and for the first stop on the ride we land at  Double Pump Summer Tip Off on the campus of Cal State Dominguez, check out some of the top talent that was on hand.

2013 Guard 6-foot-4 Isaac Hamilton Team Jennings- Hamilton came to play today, not playing with his usual AAU team the Oakland Soldiers Hamilton got to dominate the ball and control the offense on this team. From the jump Hamilton showed off his basketball saviness by locking up on defense and offense either scoring the ball or getting his teammattes involved. Hamilton finished with 25 points,  8 rebounds, 7 steals and he also probably had around 6 or 7 assists. Some consider him a two-guard at the next level but he showed today that he will have no problem playing the point guard position at the next level.

2013 Christian Wood SCA (UNLV Commit) - After committing to UNLV over the weekend, Wood still seemed to have a chip on his shoulder. Playing at high level on the offensive side Wood was knocking down jump shots and driving to the basket to finish with ease. After it’s all said and done I look for 6-foot-8 Wood to be mentioned as one of  the top players in his class.

2012 6-foot-7 Darren Smith Las Vegas DogCachters – Smith, stands at about 6-foot-7 and is extremely athletic. He can also knock down the three-ball with ease. The best part about Smith game is the way he crashes the boards and goes hard on the defensive side. After more schools get to watch him look for Smith to start landing some high major offers. Also Smith will be transferring from Westwind Prep (AZ) to La Jolla Prep (San Diego, CA) for his senior season.

2012 PF 6-foot-8 Grant Verhoeven Organized Chaos – Verhoeven doesnt have a great skill set on the offensive side of the ball, but because his motor is so high it makes up for what he is missing. On the Deffensive side of the ball the 6-foot-8 Verohaven gets after it he crashes the boards and anything in his reach he is up and trying to block it. Verohaven is being recruited by mid majors now, but if he continues to improve no doubt the high majors will come calling.

2014 Point Guard Estevan Johnson Cali Supreme 16′s – Johnson is quick and understands how to play the game. He uses his quickness and ball handling skills to get to the cup and finishes well. He is also a very unselfish player that likes to get his teammates involved. Although he is still young and still developing his game you can tell that Johnson has the court savvy to be a solid lead guard.
