Could Andre Drummond be headed to the 2012 NBA Draft?

In order to enter the NBA Draft, a player must 19 years old and a year removed from high school. Next year, in 2012, Andre Drummond will be 19 years old and already a year removed from his original high school graduating class. Under current NBA rules, he would be eligible for the draft. This makes for an interesting story over the next 12 months.

“I would actually say that he may just be going straight to the draft if he can,” a source close to the UConn basketball program told Adam Zagoria. For those of you who do not know, Connecticut is believed to be the frontrunner in the recruitment of Drummond. “If you’re not going to college next year and you’re going back to high school, I would assume it’s because you’re still trying to get to that 2012 draft.” the source said. However, according to Andre’s high school coach, his mother wants him to head to college.

What makes the situation even more puzzling is the fact that Drummond has basically been keeping his recruitment as close to his vest as possible. UCONN and Kentucky are believed to be the leaders for him at this point, but if he is seriously considering entering the draft, it could be anybody’s guess as to where he will end up next year.
