Rundown: Double Pump Hoop Fest
Yesterday I spent the day traveling the great lands of Southern California to watch some AAU basketball my first stop was in Anaheim to watch the Double Pump Hoop Fest, here goes some players that stood out to me.
2012 Point guard Tyrone Wallace – First thing you notice about wallace is his body, standing at about 6-foot-4, he has the perfect size for a high D-1 point guard prospect. After that you watch his game and he shows you why all the top schools on the west coast are showing lots of interest. He plays the game at one speed although its not the quickest its at a speed that he can control the game, whether its pulling up and knocking down a 15 footer or finding the open man for the easy score. The more and more I watch Wallace the more I start to love his game, he is going to be a solid guard for whatever program lands him.
2013 Point Guard Nigel William-Goss – William Goss, is what you want in a point guard, playing at Findlay Prep you can tell William-Goss understands how to play the point guard position, but what make William-Goss standout from the rest he brings high major talent with him. His court vision is excellent and his decision making at this level is very high. He seems to never turn the ball over, and is always looking to find an open man and just seems to make everybody around him better.
2012 Small Forward Xavier Johnson – Johnson didn’t have his best game, was settling for outside jump shots that didn’t fall and just seemed like he didn’t want to be in the gym that day. From a person with high level talent I hope that he understands he needs to bring it everyday on the court.
2012 Center Mamadou Dah -Standing at 7-foot-6 and according to him weighing 309 pounds he is hard to miss once you walk into the Gym and on the court its the same. Dah, for his size runs the floor well and calls for the ball and usually with players his size you dont get the aggressiveness right away. From watching Dah you can still tell he has a lot to learn on the basketball court but he will be an interesting prospect to watch develop over the summer. One thing he does very well is hustle and rebound the ball, of course standing at 7-foot-6 doesn’t hurt but for his size he didn’t take to many plays off.
2012 guard Jordan Tebutt – Sat down to watch the elite guard from Portland and found out that he injured his hand and will not be playing in this tourney. Tebutt did tell me that is hearing form UCLA, USC and Washington also included that along with those schools most of them PAC 10 is recruiting him along with this BIG 12 schools. When I asked him about the Oak Hill situation he told me its still up in there that he will end up there next year for his senior season.
Tyrone Wallace, told us that Gonzaga, San Diego State, CAL and UNLV have all offered and Arizona, UCLA are showing lots of interest. We should have a video interview we did with Wallace and Nigel William Goss on the site within the next couple of days that talks about their recruitment.
Thanks to everybody at the Pump Basketball for letting us cover the event and to all the players that let us interview them.
